Scania supplier sustainability response support
For Scania suppliers

Answer Scania's questionnaire in time, and turn its clear rules to your advantage.

Scania has invited your site to complete the sustainability questionnaire behind the S-Rating, and a quotation is riding on it. Scania is unusually plain about the rules: submit before the RFQ deadline or your quotation does not count, and at least 80 percent plus the minimum requirements earns the top rating. This page explains those rules, what "below 80 percent" really means, and how to answer without becoming a sustainability expert.

No submitted questionnaire before the deadline, no valid quotation

80% plus the minimum requirements earns an A

One rating, shared across the Volkswagen Group

If the request is already in your inbox

You do not need to turn it into a broad ESG project.

You need the questionnaire in before the RFQ deadline, the minimum policies explicitly in place, the environment certificate if your site is large enough, and any hotspot-material requirement handled. We prepare the pieces the rating turns on, in time.

Why suppliers get stuck

Scania's rules are the clearest in the industry. That cuts both ways.

Because Scania publishes so much, there is nowhere to hide a missed deadline or a missing policy. The questionnaire has to be submitted for the quoting site before the RFQ deadline, the minimum-requirement topics have to be named explicitly in your policies, and 80 percent is the line for a top rating. The parts Scania does not publish, the middle bands below 80 percent, are exactly where a "just above passing" answer becomes a gamble.

No submitted questionnaire, no valid quotation.

Scania states it in its invitation letter: a quotation is only valid if the questionnaire is answered and submitted for the quoting site's DUNS number before the RFQ deadline. Miss it and your price does not enter the decision, however good it is.

80 percent is the clear line, and only the top of the ladder.

At least 80 percent plus the minimum requirements earns an A. Below that, the rating depends on further factors such as audit results and country risk, and an on-site check may follow. Scania does not publish where the middle bands sit, so aiming to just scrape over is a gamble, not a plan.

The rating follows you across the whole group, and some materials carry a separate rule.

Scania shares one rating with the Volkswagen Group, so an insufficient result blocks new nominations everywhere, not just at Scania. And for hotspot materials like steel, aluminium, cast iron, and batteries, there is a separate requirement you must sign to be nominated for that part.

A strong answer, in before the deadline, keeps your quotation valid and your rating good across every Volkswagen Group brand.

What we prepare

From invitation to a submitted answer, before the deadline.

We read the invitation, pin the RFQ deadline, confirm what your site has to answer, check your policies and certificates against the minimum requirements, and prepare an answer that clears 80 percent where it can. You keep your own portal login and submit yourself, because it is your company's answer.

01

Read the invitation and pin the deadline

We read the invitation, confirm the RFQ deadline and the quoting site's DUNS number, and tell you exactly what has to be submitted and by when.

Deadline held
02

Check your policies against the minimum requirements

We check that the minimum-requirement topics are named explicitly in your Code of Conduct and your human-rights, health and safety, ethics, and environmental policies, because Scania needs them spelled out, not implied.

Gaps found
03

Build what is missing and prepare the answer

Where you need a policy, an environment certificate document, or the carbon numbers the environment questions ask for, we help build and work them out, aiming past the 80 percent line.

Answer ready
04

Handle hotspot materials and any resubmission

We check whether your parts fall under Scania's hotspot-material requirements, and if a score comes back short, we help you close the gaps and resubmit.

Nomination protected
And the year after

A rating that lasts, kept current.

The first response does the heavy lifting. Scania's rating can stay valid for up to six years, so the job after that is keeping the proof behind it fresh, so a renewal never lands in the middle of an RFQ.

The first response does the heavy lifting. Here's what next year looks like once it's in place.

01

Rating recorded and shared

Your rating is visible in the group portal and counts across every Volkswagen Group brand. If you have already answered for another group brand, or for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Honda, or Volvo, that result can be shared instead of starting again.

02

Up to six years, but certificates expire sooner

The rating has a maximum validity of up to six years, but an ISO 14001 or EMAS certificate inside it expires on its own date, and a new questionnaire version resets the clock.

03

Hotspot materials, as they roll out

Scania's material requirements are tied to specific parts and phase in over time. We track whether new nominations pull you into them.

04

Refresh before it bites

We watch the dates so a renewal or an expiring certificate is handled ahead of your next quotation, not during it.

What it costs

Fixed fees, quoted after your free review.

Final price depends on how ready your policies and certificates are, how many sites are in scope, whether hotspot materials apply, and whether you need carbon numbers or new policies built. The free review confirms it before you commit. Getting certified to ISO 14001 or EMAS is a separate step with a certification body; we prepare the policies and management-system documents behind it.

Common questions

Common questions

Short answers for the first questions a Scania supplier usually has before sharing the request.

Do I really need the questionnaire in before the RFQ deadline?

Yes. Scania's invitation letter states that a quotation is only valid if the questionnaire is answered and submitted for the quoting site before the RFQ deadline. It is the one hard date on the page, and a strong price will not help a quotation that arrives without it.

What score gives me an A?

At least 80 percent plus all the minimum requirements. Below 80 percent, the rating depends on further factors such as audit results and country risk, and an on-site check may be needed. Scania does not publish where the bands below A sit.

Is the rating shared with the rest of the Volkswagen Group?

Yes. Scania uses the same rating tool as the group. If you have already completed the questionnaire for another group brand, or for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Honda, or Volvo, you can share that validated result instead of starting again.

What are the hotspot-material requirements?

For materials like flat and long steel, aluminium, cast iron, and batteries, Scania asks suppliers to sign and follow a separate requirement specification to be nominated for that part. We check whether your parts are affected before you commit to anything.

How long does the rating last?

Up to six years. But certificates inside it, such as ISO 14001 or EMAS, expire on their own dates, and a new questionnaire version resets the clock, so it pays to keep your proof current.

My score came back low. Can it be fixed?

Yes. You can update your answers and evidence and have them re-validated, and close any on-site check findings. We help with both, and most gaps are fixable.
