Got an EcoVadis request? Here's what it actually involves.
A customer has asked your company to complete an EcoVadis assessment. It comes with a login, a deadline, and a lot of questions, and it probably landed on your desk because nobody else owns it. This page explains what EcoVadis is, what it wants from you, and how to answer it without becoming a sustainability expert.
What EcoVadis actually is
EcoVadis is a company that rates how a business handles sustainability. Your customer asked to have you assessed, so EcoVadis looks at your policies, your actions, and the documents you upload, then gives you a score and a scorecard your customer can see (the EcoVadis assessment). Unlike a carbon number you calculate, this is mostly about the proof you can show for how your company already operates.
Keslio is independent and not affiliated with EcoVadis. We help companies respond to it.
What EcoVadis asks of you, and by when
Five things are worth knowing before you start. Each one changes how much work the response is.
It looks at four areas
EcoVadis assesses four things: your environmental impact, how you treat people (labor and human rights), your business ethics, and how you check your own suppliers (sustainable procurement) (EcoVadis themes). Not every area carries the same weight for every company, so it helps to know which ones matter most for yours.
It runs on documents, not confident answers
EcoVadis analysts score you on the documents you attach to each answer: policies, certificates, reports, and numbers. A strong-sounding answer with nothing behind it does not help you, and recent, relevant proof does (how documents are reviewed). This is where most of the real work is.
The questions are built around your company
EcoVadis tailors the questionnaire to your size, your industry, and where you operate (how the questionnaire is set). That is why copying another company's answers is risky: their evidence may not be what you are being asked for.
You get a score out of 100, and possibly a medal
EcoVadis gives you a score from 0 to 100 and a scorecard. Strong performers earn medals, which are based on how you rank against other assessed companies (scores and medals). No one can promise you a particular score or medal, because it depends entirely on your own evidence.
The result lasts twelve months
Your scorecard is valid for a year. After that, or when another customer asks to see it, you may be assessed again (reassessment). So it pays to keep your proof current rather than rebuild it under pressure each time.
What to do now
You have two sensible next moves. Send us the EcoVadis request and we will read it and tell you, for free, exactly what it needs and what it will take. Or if the environment questions have you stuck on emissions numbers, our free calculator gives you a solid one in about ten minutes.
Use the free review when you already have an EcoVadis invitation, questionnaire, or deadline in front of you.
How Keslio helps
We read the request, find which of your existing documents count as proof, point out the gaps worth closing before you submit, and help you answer accurately without overclaiming. Where the environment questions need emissions numbers, we work them out. And because the scorecard runs on a yearly clock, we leave you a plan for next time instead of a one-off scramble.
Free request review
$0

Emissions numbers
From $3k
The environment questions need your carbon emissions worked out and documented, so your answers there have real proof behind them.
Full questionnaire support
From $8k
You need your evidence reviewed, help preparing accurate answers, a clear list of the gaps to close, and a plan to improve them.
Ongoing support
From $3k/mo
You face these requests all year, from EcoVadis, CDP, customers, or investors, and want a standing part-time sustainability team.
Final price depends on how ready your documents are, how many company entities you have, and whether you need emissions work or improvement help. The free review confirms it before you commit.

If your request came from one of these companies, we have a page on exactly what they expect.

Common questions
Is Keslio part of EcoVadis?
No. Keslio is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by EcoVadis. We help companies prepare and respond to an EcoVadis assessment. We are not EcoVadis and cannot score or submit on its behalf.
Can you guarantee a good score or a medal?
No, and be wary of anyone who says they can. Your score depends on your own evidence. What we can do is improve how clear, relevant, and complete that evidence is, which is what the assessment actually rewards.
Do I need to be a sustainability expert to do this?
No. You bring what you know about your business, we find the proof that counts and prepare the answers, and we explain anything technical in plain language as we go.
What documents will you need from me?
Usually your policies (environment, people, ethics, suppliers), any procedures, certificates, reports, KPI numbers, and emissions records you already have. We give you a clear list and help you see which ones actually count as proof.
How long does it take?
It depends on your deadline, how ready your documents are, and whether you need emissions work or new policies. The free review tells you whether a short response project or a longer preparation project is the better fit.
